A young Jewish immigrant in San Francisco has a life-changing encounter with a neighbor that leads to a life full of music. The Violin Upstairs charts the true history of the filmmaker’s violin, from its birth in 18th-century Austria, to its existence in modern day San Francisco. The film reflects the incredible power that kindness and music can play in forging a new life.
